Articulated Dust Collector Arm

Page 7: Additonal Information

To adapt this system to a lathe stand with steel or cast legs, I've got a friend who tells me mounting the entire assembly on a free-standing post is quite effective. He used a 6"x3' piece of 3/4" plywood, stood it on a 4 footed base and screwed the post blocks to that. One person I showed this to reversed the post assembly and suspended it from overhead to hang downward.

I've requested photos of these alternative mounting methods and will post them here as soon as I recieve them.

Bob Rowe sent me some pictures of his adaptation. He uses square aluminum tubing instead of the steel I was using and his is a free-standing mount that you can use without having to attach it to your lathe bed. As a result this would work great for any application requiring flexible dust collection.

I also like his method of clamping the inlet portion to the arm using large hose clamps.

Great job Bob and thanks for the update. (He also has some neat ideas for some tool holders and other stuff that I'll put up here with the next tips and tools section coming soon.)

I'd very much appreciate any suggestions anyone has (and some photos to post here!) and of course, to credit you with any adaptations that could prove useful.

Please send any questions or suggestions to me here. Thank you and good luck.
